ok.......this was good. a good episodes, that has "cant wait for next week" all over. wow! they truly are buildin things up.
i really like how everyone is trying to redefine. xander, who tries to date again. anya, who is unhappy with bein vengeance demon, and her choice it seems. she has nomore friends, and seems like her fellow demons are not so fond of her. i hope that shell find out what she really wants. she needs to move on, getting back to bein a vengeance demon was like takin 100 steps back. and it seems like she starts to relaize that its up to her, and blamin xander is not teh answer, cuz she made her own choices after he left her at the altar. grow up!! willow who is scared that her friends wont be her friends anymore. oh maybe she and friendless anya could team up. los buffos and los spoikos.....whooa! now this was def a spoiky ep. and whoa. he is not like angel at all. his monologue at the end of the ep. shivers much? i feel sorry for him.......did he really except buffy to run into his arms and huggle the shinny new soul ? this promises to be onehell of a ride for him. and how will he and buffy redefine themselves ? is it monday again already ??? great ep, fantastic buildin up of things. oh.....and hehe...the opening scene was funny.....frankfurt!!!!!! ok, not so much. and drop dude, she is haunting me.......did yew see that run, slayer lola, run chick??? hauntin!!! nifty thing was that the track they played at the beginning had even german lyrics. "from beneath yew, it devours...." nice trick....... makes yew wonder that line....which applied again in many ways to the episode. good question, who is beneath who, who feels like beneath who. spoik feels like bein beneath buffy, willow feels the same towards her friends. the girl who wished her ex to be a worm felt that he was beneath her. like turnin him into a worm... xander....anya......does anya slightly feel beneath? cuz she is a demon again? and than we have the crawlin evil from beneath.....interestin theme for the ep. excuze me while i rewatch Previously......on Doby the Futon Slacker... |

yay for new-episodey goodness!
This one is better, guys. I really liked this one. I definitely agree - go the Run Slayer Run in the beginning, Dini... If this is an indication of how much better Dawn is getting, I'm beginning to think it's a possibility I could actually handle DTVS... Something odd was going on with Anya (or Emma), though. She seemed a little.. off the mark. I don't know. It might just be me, but it feels like most of the actors are trying too hard... I hope they don't plan on repeating a line every episode... "It's about power..." - "From beneath you, it devours..." Gets on my nerves. Anyway, that's my three cents. (I gave you a little extra for free...) I go online sometimes, but everyone's spelling is really bad... it's depressing...

Quick Schpeel....Just saw the episode...so some garbled thoughts while it's sorta still in my head
Opening - we really are going for the Alias intros! Heck that chick even looked a bit like Jennifer Garner - and hello the bright pink hair. There must be an Alias in joke with the writers. Opening II - I wanna know what this is all about! Okay, don't we all. Wonder how long we're gonna have these intros for, before we find out what the deal is. At least this week, they had a connection to Buffy. Are they prophetic dreams as Buffy has had in the past, or are they happening as Buffy's dreams them... Spike - why did you lose the hair! The hair was nice! (yes, I know why really - costume, etc, but I liked the hair! Although it was more James than Spike). WormGirl - was momentarily confused as she also looked like Jennifer Garner...I thought that whole thing with Anya, her and the worm was brilliant. Damn funny. Poor Anya At first, I wasn't sure whether it was Spike who appeared in the Summer's house. Scene in WormGirl's house - Xander. Poor guy. Looks like he's been desparately trying to put everything behind him, but it hasn't entirely worked. Spike. I'm fascinated by all this. Glad their tipping their hat to the fact that a lot of this is "Angel" behaviour...but I have to wonder where they are going with it all. When Spike freaked out in the Bronze, we saw a Spike who hadn't changed that much. He hit Anya....demon or no...Angel had quite a problem with hitting girls. But then the next minute, he's overcome with guilt and pain. And voices. And he seems very much in tone with what's brewing in the hellmouth. Despite Buffy's flashback to Spike's attempted rape last season (although I have to say, I don't hold it against Spike as much as a lot of people - because violence was the nature of their relationship), I sniffled for Spike "Costume doesn't work" (or some such). Spike can't be a monster, can't be man...i'm torn because as much as want spike to be kickass bad vamp again, Buffy will dust him if he becomes it. Hmm...sorry..got sidetracked.... Perhaps the Villains we saw at the end of last episode are in Spike's head - or have somehow possessed him and what we see is Spike fighting against the voices of his past victims, fighting against the villains and fighting against himself? Guess we'll find out. The end scene had some great moments. But, it was ridiculously long. Flashed me back to some of the Buffy/Spike scenes of last season - too long. It made the episode seem short. They should have cut to another short scene after that and ended on that instead. But it was a great scene. James is really sinking his teeth into the loony behavior. Just. Too. Long. My favorite line: (from memory, so might not be 100% correct) Spike: I'm not sticking my head in there Buffy: Why not, if it gets bitten off, that's a clue. |

Great episode, I'm loving this season so far and where it seems to be heading; not much to add (I'll leave the 'dissection' to others) except - where are Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward when you need them?

Re: Beneath You | ||

Not impressed with this ep either.
Since when did Buffy the Vampire Slayer become the Xander/Spike show? There is hardly any Willow, and she is the only reason why I am still watching. Can we get through a season without violence to women? What is the deal with Spike claiming to have changed and then attacking Anya?!!! Spike has not changed. He is still evil, and now he is MORE looney tunes on top of that. This is a BAD combination. Spike is more interesting when he is more evil. The writers just want us to have sympathy for him. There is one bright spot. Dawn's threat to Spike. And I am paraphrasing. If you touch her, you are going to wake up on fire. Dawn is the only one not cutting him any slack. It seems to me Xander would have been madder,and I was hoping he would atleast be more threatening to Spike. What's with Xander just standing around watching when Spike is hitting and threatening Anya? This is very out of character for Xander. Unfortunately, just like last season. Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.
Tara: Willow, I got so lost.Willow: I found you. I willalways find you. Tara: Nobody messes with MY girl! Willow: I'm more of a breast gal myself...but then again, you knew that. |

Okay quick response before I go to bed.. I'm not a big Spike fan, but he hit Anya because he wanted to "wear the costume" of the old Spike. He didn't want his new soul to be revealed. Why did he not feel bad? She's a demon... but man did I hate it... You don't hit my Anyabear... sigh...

Re: Beneath You | ||

Hummmmm, I think he did it more because he didn't want his soul to be known, and it was right on the tip of her tongue.
And yeah, Captain Crayon didn't seem very heroic did he? *More in the Ready, Steady, Vent thread since I risk upsetting people.* |

Even if he did hit Anya to keep them from finding out about his soul, there is no excuse for it. I am sure there are some people who will defend Spike no matter what he does. The writers want the viewers to have sympathy for Spike. I don't, and I never will.

No, I have no sympathy at all. I'm just saying what I thought his motivations were. I mean he COULD have just left. He's not there she can't question him.

Re: Episode Discussion: Beneath you | ||

i really love what they did with spike. in my opinion, he is far more interesting than the guilt ridden Angel. spike choose to seek the spark, he was not cursed. he did it cuz he wanted to be a man, cuz buffy only saw him as a monster and used him (yes, yes and he was no angel in that relationship either yada yada we been there
i think its sad that a part of him must have really thought that all would be shinny and whee once he got the spark. cuz what he got now is an inner conflict, between the man and the monster. and that must be causin him so much pain (we didnt see the scoobies for 3 months, so how long did he hang out somewhere with his shinny spark), that huggin a cross doesnt even make him flinch. in my opinion its fascinating. he is torn about himself, as we as viewers are about spike. i was first a lil confuzzled bout xander tryin to hit on another girl. but well.....anya is a vengeance demon again. kinda not so funky for makin up. i mean bein a vengeance demon kinda screams "if yew dumped me forget it, and watch your back!!!". i think xander wants some normality in his life. but not so easy as a scooby, like we saw. and anya seperated herself form the scoobies. she seems a lil lost as where to go now. and i think she and xander wont have normal conversations before she knows what she wants to dew with her life now, as it does not seem like she is one happy vengeance demon. anya choose her path, and i dont think that it was a good choice so far. and dear lil willow (ehm..the buffy willow, as drop thought i meant LW is it tuesday already ??? Okay, I have to say that this season has me hooked again. I have no clue what's going on and I love it!
As for this episode, I rather enjoyed it. First of all, I love crazy Spike. In fact, when it looked as though he was back to his "normal" self, I got very upset, but it all went back to good at the end, which, IMO, was one of the finest moments on Buffy. I was completely captivated by that whole scene. James Marsters is a god. I also really enjoyed the scene at the Bronze with the outsider trying to understand the sometimes bizarre relationships between the Scoobies. Oh and I think I'll have to add "Bite me Harris" to my collection of favorite quotage. Emma's a god too. Now, though I was much with the love for this episode, I have one sticking point about this season that I think others will definitely relate to .... No mention of Tara at all! I wasn't expecting them all to be gathered around her grave (where is she buried anyway?) sobbing into their hankies, but she was a part of the inner circle and yet it seems like she was never there. Granted it's only the 2nd episode of the season and granted Willow has been on a total of maybe 5 minutes between the 2 eps, but I wanted a little something ... just a little. Buffy dies and they spend an entire season going on about it. Someone else dies and it's "let's move on". But again, only the 2nd episode, so I really am going to try and just wait for the bone they'll throw us. So, I majorly digress, but back to business ... Really good ep. I'm glad the show is back on the straight and narrow. And I can't wait for Willow's homecoming! |
