Previously.....on Doby the Futon Slacker... Uni info arrived. The Chosen one may has to pass her burden, to the next. Potentials slowly arrive at la casa Slacker, who have to be protected from skewl, society and....parents who want em to lead a succesful life. Doby: Ok. Yew know yew are the Potentials. Or..rite now the Potential. Yew know what is coming up. Jax: Not exactly... Drop: Yeah what ? Doby: Drop yew cannot be chosen, as yew study! Don't read further if you don't want spoilers... So glad we finally got an Andrew-centric episode. And I loved the 'flashback' thing with Andrew beating Evil Willow in Grave. Wow, that boy's a dreamer. And I was really happy to see Jonathan back, and not as the First. As, Andrew said, Jonathan really is the cutest thing. I didn't know why they threw in the Xander/Anya closure, it didn't seem necessary to me, but whatever. Andrew really hit the nail on the head when he mentioned that Buffy's encouraging speeches were getting boring, and then showed Willow, looking all bored. Plus, the pig running by when Wood and Buffy were in the basement...wasn't that thing dead? Didn't Andrew mention something like that in another episode. That killing a pig is hard? All the same, the pig thing was funny. Jane

Posts: 1974 (02/24/03 21:41:25) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	i loved how they made fun of themsleves, by showing us how bored everyone with Bushy is. heck! even she hates her speeches! that was totally great and made me forgive buffy for the crap she spilled in those. i liked xander/anya. sorta sniffy. and well....we didnt really know if they would/not so.. yeah. good to see that. the pig running by was so freakin hilarious that i almost choked from laughin. andrew...his dream sequences ("we are gaaaaaaaaaaaawds!") cracked me up hard. that lil guy really needs a reality check. well he got one now. andrew cryin. great. as if willow tears were not already nuff! noooo! nother kickass cry-dude. made me all sappy. bah! the brilliance of the directin this ep. absolutely a ride! the flakes scene with softpron buffy/spoik/anya/somegirlwhosnameandrewforgot. i aboslutely dieded. anya face...emma just is absolutely cool. the flashbacks. hehe. the cam shots. the intro. oh oh! and when we see willow and kennedy smoochin and andrew goes all "this will be of interest to yew dear viewer" rushes past willow and kennedy "xander repaired the window...blah blah". i love andrew! i guess he would play tekken with me, blah who cares for smoohcies when there is geeky uselessness to explore! :P sleepy now. maybe a more constructive review tomorrow. Spoiler... Spoiler... Spoiler... Spoiler... Spoiler... Filler episode? Or...so much more? I remember "I was made to love you," how the Buffy-bot thing seemed to be such a small, inconsequential episode. It was just this thing, which kind of advanced characterization, kind of gave us a laugh, but it couldn't possibly have anything to do with the rest of the season. Could it? Now we have this video tape that Andrew made. Interesting. I think that tape is going to play an important role before the end, "for good or for evil." Ever watch Babylon 5? I can't help but remember Sheridan and Delenn lying in bed, contemplating if anyone would remember them, would remember their deeds, remember their sacrifices. "Nah," they say. They were just inconsequential cogs in history. I wonder if Buffy and the gang defeat this first evil, once and for all. I wonder who might die, and who might live to tell the tale. Who would remember them? And how...? Might be kinda cool. Or it could have just been a filler episode after all. a.k.a. Avatar of the Bronze Buffy: I should be taller than you. Dawn: Maybe you're not done growing.

The highlight was the beginning the Masterpiece theater.. and Andrew pronoucing it: 'vahm-pyre' The root of the Power of the FIrst lies in the Cheese Slices. I don't get when in the old Sunnydale high did students get so stressed that their heads literally exploded? There was the return of the pig that Xander ate... I liked andrew's heroic fantasies and hammy overacting. I think that his rendition of the battle with Dark Willow in the MAgic Shop had an added scene.... Xander and Anya have come full circle....their relationship, at least the physical part, began in a drafty basement and it ended tonight in a drafty basement.

Favorite moments: - Andrew flattering Anya -- Emma Caulfield reminds me more and more of Madeline Kahn with each scene. And I intend that as a very high compliment. - the softcore shot of Buffy with the cereal. (But why would Spike appear on camera?) - "Spike, uh . . . the light was behind you, there." - "We are as goooooooooods!" How is it that I love the DS/TL/AB interactions so much more this season than last? - Anya telling Xander she still loved him and Xander replying, "It's nice to hear." A very sweet moment. Less favorite moments: - Gratuitous Willow/Kennedy kissing. For no reason. In the middle of the living room in a house rapidly getting famous for the lack of privacy. And AH looking stiff as a board. - The Sunnydale High scenes. "Oh, yeah, students' heads explode all the time here!" Somehow I don't think Wood's contract will be renewed at the end of the school year. - Lack of Giles. - First!Wood calling Buffy a whore. That bugged. When there were so many other things for the First to attack Buffy with -- her decision to keep Spike (and maybe Anya) alive, whatever guilt she might feel about Joyce's or Tara's deaths, her responsibility for the SiTs, her refusal to take on the additional demon power -- no, the First has to take issue with Buffy's sex life.

I think about it one minute and I liked it a lot; and then I think about it again and I hated it. I'm getting a headache...So I'll go between and just give it a 5/10. +/- This was such a filler (pointless) episode. And with about 5 eps left to the finale I think it was a waste of time. But it was funny in the "This is silly, but I am amused" way - which is much better than my usual "This can't be happening, please god make it stop!" way this season. And I love Tom Lenk, he is a gem. + + + Andrew's fantasies were funny... Spuffy in the kitchen with Anya, standing up to DarkWillow, Evil Genius stuff, Masterpiece Theatre etc... Oh, and "We are as gooooooods". LOL + [rotfl] "Sexual tension between Wood and Spike you could cut with a knife." Hee! - - NON-Sexual tension between Willow and Kennedy you didn't have to cut through with anything. I'm with Andrew...the window fixing was much more interesting than that kissage...OMG how fake can you get? I'm sure corpses have more passion during a make-out session. It was almost laughable if it wasn't so horribly sad. I think that Alyson really doesn't like kissing girls and she's not willing to fake it anymore. Or maybe it's just Iyari and Alyson together, because she was at least semi-convincing with Amber Benson. Damn, especially that ENTROPY kiss. Anyway... LOL! I'm more sure Andrew is gay now, not the least bit interested in the girl-on-girl action on the sofa? Then again I wasn't interested either [shrug] - - - No Giles...AGAIN! Where is he damn it!? I mean we KNOW where ASH is...but could you at least explain WHYYYYY Giles is never around. Maybe he's out fetching more SiTs? Bleh.... + (LOL!) Loved Anya's comment, "Why don't you just masterbate like the rest of us?" + Andrew not filming the Buffy speech! Thank goodness! lol! +/- Glad they finally confronted the Xanya issue. Though very late this season, but -again I say - better late than never. Though confused as to why Xander and Anya are refusing to give it another shot. They still love each other. Xander will "never find another girl like her". THEN they have sex. Damn I guess it really IS over... + SMG did a great job of making me like Buffy again after last week's bitch-a-thon. Plus, the final scene with Andrew was actually quite suspenseful. - Wood going to Spike IN THE BACK!! That's SO not cool... + And at the end, I enjoyed Andrew coming out about what he had done. I thought it was really touching. So, the moral of the story is: Go Andrew!! but still a little Too. Much. Andrew. Less is more people! Remember that next time. Still a cool ep when I don't think about it too much....

The question of telling the story -- Andrew's use of stories as a way to distance himself from the murder of Jonathan, Buffy's "I'm making it all up," the debate in the kitchen about whether or not it's too much of a leap of faith to videotape the run-up to saving the world -- everything revolved around the idea of the storyteller, and the potential power of story. Buffy positions herself as the chief storyteller and controller of information -- she dislikes Andrew's videotaping, she withholds the knowledge about the seal from Andrew at the last possible moment, she chooses how and when to tell the others about her visions -- because she knows the power is in the storytelling. But she doesn't know a crucial part of the main story: that her resurrection led to the arrival of the FE. She only knows she doesn't know a lot, and it's bugging her. In retrospect, this explains (to me) a lot about Buffy's actions this season. She wants things that are familiar to her: Spike as snarky fighter, Willow as standby and magic user. She's much more comfortable with Wood now that she can fit him into the narrative of Slayers and Watchers; she's comfortable at Sunnydale High on the mouth of the Hellmouth. The ones who don't have a place in Buffy's established narrative -- the SiTs, Anya, maybe even Dawn -- she has no patience for, and maybe fears. The "Get It Done" speech, which I disliked intensely at the time, reads in retrospect like a plea: "Show me where you stand, what you do, give me knowledge of you, because I need all the knowledge I can to fight the First." As later eps air, I may change my mind and go back to the Buffy-is-evil theory I've been leaning towards, but for now I'm just relieved: the show is coherent again!

Now,for my humble opinion.I have to admit,I was not eagerly anticipating an "Andrew-centric" episode.Even though he's provided some nice comic relief recently,I couldn't get past the fact that he murdered his best(heck,his only)friend in cold blood.My opinion of the character started to change when he actually displayed a bit of a spine by standing up to "the first" in the previous episode.It was nice to see him in this episode finally acknowledge the terrible thing he had done,and show genuine remorse for his actions.I thought Tom Lenk did a great job,better than I expected.Kudos to him,and to Jane Espenson for returning to the classic "Buffy" formula of equal parts humor,drama,and horror. I didn't get the impression that both Anya and Xander were ready to move on.They seemed unsure to me.Perhaps I misread their expressions at the end of that scene.I'll have to watch it again. I have to agree with Pheeniks,I thought Wood's attempt to stake Spike in the back made him look really bad. I also think Slyfeind makes an interesting point about the importance of Andrew's documentary.It just adds to the sneaking suspicion I have that Buffy is gonna die for the 3rd time.I hope I'm wrong.Even if this WAS just a filler episode,"Buffy" filler is still better than 99% of everything else that's on. We got lots of Andrew, which I surprisingly liked (might have more to do w/ the character development of a secondary character than Andrew himself, dunno). I really enjoyed the bit of Anya we got in this episode. I'm not sure Anya and Xander are over. I think we'll see more interaction and tension between them, then they'll probably go off and kill her or something. You know how they like to have characters seperated, re-unite them, then rip them apart again. Shirt-less Spike I can't seem to get over two things about the principal: Wood is his last name. Several things come to mind, only one of them has to do w/ that is a vampire's weakness. And secondly, Robin Wood sounds a lot like Robin Hood. I still hope he's evil and gets killed. It was kinda cool to see them tying in older episodes into this one. Such as the shy-ignored girl disappearing. Dunno what else, I liked it. Ditto what most other people said.
