Posts: 271 (01/15/03 12:59:07) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None it's so weird, now that all the seasons are coming out on DVD, to sit back and watch and notice things you just...didn't bother point out before. now that we're in season 7 and the characters have grown so far and changed hair so many times...it's almost sad to look back. i just watched dead man's party, and near the end, when willow's talking to buffy at the espresso pump about her summer magick, she mentions how it can be scary and feel like it's ripping her apart on the inside. well i guess it did eh? i don't know. just like in life, it's kind of...amazing to look back at the "life" of a tv show and notice the moments that built up to the present, that you didn't even recognize as a building block the first time. has anybody else ever been struck looking back at the past of the show? ><(((<)))'>o O (i'm gay and that's okay 'cause gay is happy and happy is gay)

You look back and notice things that just work so wonderfully in light of later events (hearing Tara stand up for Warren in I Was Made To Love You takes on an almost heartbreaking edge once you've seen S6). Even more wonderful is the fact that it clearly isn't just deliberate foreshadowing, just good old fashionned consistency. The thing that I'm finding nice to note now is the fact that right from S1.1 Willow has always been willing to do the hacker thang if it suits her ends. To put it another way, she's precisely the kind of person who is willing to misuse her talents to make the world more to her liking. Right from day 1. Of course maybe I'm overthinking. -- Imagine how much worse it would be if life were fair, and we knew that all of the terrible things that happened to us happened because we deserved them

With the advent of computers, the internet, chat rooms, forums, et al this has taken on a new meaning. No longer is it a national, regional or a local experience but it's now global. Man I remember when it was a hugh deal to have programs In Living Color. No I'm not talking about the TV show, really. But I totally love the new technology today. But getting back on topic here. Oh man yeah. It is fasinating to go back and see the progression of the characters. It's such a kick. Especially now with the DVD's coming out.

Posts: 271 (01/15/03 13:45:30) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	i know, about alyson hannigan. it's like she's so different now but there are moments... like the start of seeing red. when she looked up at tara talking about how she was worried about buffy. she had the season 1 willow face. or when she was on the floor and kennedy was talking to her in showtime in her room, she had the season 1 willow face. i love when the old willow comes back in glimpses, when you almost forget how much has changed. something i just noticed in "anne." when buffy beats up the demons, she picks up a hammer and a sickle. and the demons are red and believe in labor until death for the benefit of the whole. communist much? lol. sorry, all this ayn rand is going to my brain. ><(((<)))'>o O (i'm gay and that's okay 'cause gay is happy and happy is gay)

Posts: 1009 (01/15/03 13:55:07) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The thing I love about the DVD's is some of the commentary that we get to hear I adore Marti Noxon's just so I can laugh, but the Bad Girls commentary just was very nice to hear. I mean I love my Faith and I thought Doug Petrie did a hilarious job of complimenting Eliza Dushku for bringing the lesbian subtext between Buffy and Faith even further out. It just cracked me up. But if you want to be eerie in the small things you notice start making MV's and the editing process brings out small things that you notice as you watch the episodes. Bren

They weren't gay, but Faith had this kind of ambient sexuality that gave "undertones" to just about everything she touched -- Imagine how much worse it would be if life were fair, and we knew that all of the terrible things that happened to us happened because we deserved them

Buffy looked so young n innocent n now she looks all grown up n whatnot. Even Alyson Hannigan, looked all kiddie-like in seasons 1 n 2. Incredible how far BtVS has gone... Posts: 103 (01/24/03 15:56:56) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	it is pretty amazing the thread that continues to go through the show. i have especially enjoyed drew goddard's scripts as there have been a few times this season where scenes or lines from past episodes were brought up (where buffy reminds xander that willow gave him the message about kicking angels a** in "becoming" and willow saying "i didnt say that!") as for the scene in "bad girls" between faith and buffy the script specifically had a special note in there about a lesbian sub text but it was directed to kep it "sub-sub".

I look back at my own remarks on this very board... and I'd say most times, I wind up referencing a past episode or two... and I don't mean recent past... usually it's something from the "way back when" files... it's details like that that keep me watching... and keep me re-watching... just to see what else I can pick up (especially "Restless"... In light of later developments, it really struck me as ironic, although I'm sure it was entirely unplanned. Buffy, trying to buck up her pal's spirits, asks, "What guy could resist the Willow wiles?" To which Willow responds, "At last count, all of 'em...and maybe some others." She says this last bit almost meekly, and with a very confused look on her face. Now, in retrospect, we could say that she was grappling with the internal stirrings of her emerging sexual orientation; we could say that, but I don't think we should. I'd much rather just assume it was a funny little line thrown in to make the viewers smile, and leave it at that.

Posts: 129 (02/15/03 04:19:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	yea its crazy when you loook back at past seasons! season three rules! it is the best BtVS season ever! where else can you get triple fitness, David, Alexis and James - where else can you get kick ass Faith - where else can you get Xander at his funniest - willow at her cutest - and Willow and Xander action!!!!!! and not least Buffy getting recognition for her efforts as the slayer!! top top top top season, even if it makes me cry my heart out. I love BtVS now, dont get me wrong, but early BtVS was so so so much happier, funnier and full of teenage frolics! The only characters that I prefer nowadays to their early seasons is Anya, Faith, Angel, Cordy and Wes, but seeing as three of them are in Angel and Faith is in limbo, theres only Anya I prefer now than her earlier character! thats cos she is so so so so funny. I didn't like her when she first came in, she was too hard nosed for me and when she dated Xander it was like she was invading Xander turf like no one else had before. But after Joyce died and she made 'the speech' you know the one guys! I just fell, and now i love her and she rules, remember her comment about her hair to Giles in season six - so so vulnerabel - she rules! Emma is a top top actress! tarasApprentice - I agree about that line regarding 'kick his a*' and willow saying she didnt, which of course she didnt!!!! such clever clever writing! i feel like ive gone on a rant! but yeah im loving watching my season three dvd over and over and over and over again!!!! But anyway I just thought i'd mention little snippits from some of the seasons that hinted at Dawn...Like Faith's 'little miss muffet' line in Buffy's dream, as well as another of Buffy's dreams, Faith mentioned 'little sister coming' and also Tara saying to Buffy in a dream to be 'back before dawn'. That was very of the writers.... amy Tara: I was just afraid that if you saw the kind of people I came from, you wouldn't wanna be anywhere near me. Willow: See, that's where you're a dummy. I think about what you grew up with, and then I look at what you are it makes me proud. It makes me love you more. Tara: Every time I'm... even when I'm at my worst, you always make me feel special.
