Re: Episode Discussion: 7X12 Potential

It's getting tough to compliment this season without being repetitive. While this episode focused primarily on the ongoing plot of training the SITs there was some great character stuff with those we already know.
highlight below for spoilery thoughts: -The opening segment rocked. Spike as a trainer? That's one step away from a Watcher type role, interesting. This also set up the notion of instincts that flow throughout the episode. -Buffy abandoning the SITs later was a cool moment as well. Very tough love but necessary. I'm just curious how the characters will react when one of the SITs does die. -I wonder if Clem knows Large Marge. -I want to adopt Andrew. He would be fun to keep around just to hear what analogies & quotes he'd use. -Poor Dawnie. Even though she was somewhat shellshocked and uncertain to begin with you know that deep down she was happy to be "chosen." During s7 she has struggled to be a part of the gang and make herself useful although she is largely ignored. Being the slayer would have pushed her into the spotlight, but it was not meant to be. -The last scene with Xander's speech had me sniffly. Why does every RRK episode end with me crying or nearly crying? end spoilage |

As usual, spoilers down below...
Okay...good episode. I loved the end scene, with Dawn and Xander. RRK always makes really touching, cute scenes between two characters. Let me just mention that...I love Kennedy! She's by far(IMO) the best potential so far! I like Molly and Amanda too, the others are okay. But where was Chloe? *confused* About Dawn thinking she was a potential...I would've been happy if it had come true, but I'm also glad it was Amanda. I liked that they led us on, and then suddenly changed the entire thing...keeps me on my toes. Must go watch again... Jane |

Okay....so now Spike can hurt all slayers?
In the beginning two of the girls said "ouch" as Spike manhandled them. He didn't even get a pinchy headache. And, correct me if I'm wrong, aren't we missing at least two Slayers in Training? I'm not talking about the blond girl who happened to be the First in teenage clothing. There were two girls from the last episode that were missing tonight. All four remaining Slayers In Training are fifteen? Yeah, and I'm twenty, and still get proofed before going into bars... Didn't we do the whole Dawn feels useless thing last season? Big Sis is focusing not on Spike this time but the girls in the basement? If so, expect Dawn to sing:"Does anyone even notice? Does anyone even care?" again. Watch your valuables, Scoobs.... Clem returned, but only to make Beetlejuice face at the SITs. A waste of a good Clem. Does he do anything??? If I hear one more Buffy Slayer Lecture.... Mutant Enemy: "Paging Mr. Goddard. Mr. Goddard..." |

Okay,
I really don't know if it is just me, but quick thoughts I'm still worried about Giles. I hope it's all hooey in my head. I still think that Dawn could be a potential SIT and the writers are just giving us the slip to see Dawn be more grown up as she has been this season. As for the buffy not choosing dawn... she can't, Faith would. If you get my drift. I adore the hat worn by "rainbow girl" as I call her whom gets hurt. For Spike inflicting pain, he didn't mean too, so does that make the chip not work, or maybe it's starting to malfunction.. who knows?! I really did get a little of the Jenny vibe from Kennedy. It makes me like her more. Andrew has won me over, and I finally got so more Xander now the only thing I need is more Anya, I'm greedy so greedy. Bren |

Spoilers Below:
I felt that the episode was kind of slow. I was almost bored. Of course, it may have just been how predictable it all was for me. Don't get me wrong, it was good. Especially Xander's ending speech. I was also with the watery eyes. It was nice hearing him say these things, and Dawn get it. Jane: I know exactly what you mean about Chloe. I keep watching the beginning to hear some explanation as to her disappearance. I refuse to believe that after dealing with the Ubervamp, she was killed. Or that the Bringers (was that their name?) got to her. They were supposed to be laying low. gentleman spike: I think it was just one SIT, though I could be wrong. I'll have to rewatch both. As for the bar, all I can think is that they were in a demon bar and came in with the Slayer. Maybe nobody is going to argue with that. Drop: Yes, Large Marge!!! I also don't know why everyone's is worried about Buffy dying and a new Slayer, one of them, being called. As she's already passed the power, Faith would have to be the one to die for anyone else to be called. If not, there is another slayer out there as Buffy has died twice. I liked Amanda. She has been in to see Buffy before? So, SITs have the know how and strenth without training? 'cause she seriously kicked some butt. Alittle too much for my liking given the previous SIT actions and hesitations with the weapons. I think I enjoy Andrew too much. He's great fun. I found the looks the SITs had when finding more about Spike and Buffy hilarious. And some of there remarks. Also, I don't know the exact line, but one SIT made the comment about liking the feel of wood in her hand. And Kennedy steps up with the not getting it. That was great. I need to watch it some more. Again, and this has been stated by Mutant Enemy. The Slayer line flows through Faith. After Buffy's first death back in season one the line passed her and no new slayer would be called from her dying again.

I must say that the mentioning of they become the Slayer if Buffy dies does annoy me, but I get it. They may not get the power, but they will get the fight.

A solid episode, though it still feels a little like we're running in place.Glad to see they wrapped up the whole "is Dawn a possible SIT or isn't she" in one episode, rather than drag it out like the whole "is Giles really Giles" thing.Nice to see Xander get to say something of significance, instead of just fixing the windows.Though I guess fixing windows beats eating bugs and getting the funny syphilis

I guess I'm missing the whole Kennedy rocks mantra that people seem to be repeating. I don't find her very interesting. Oooh, especially as a love interest for Willow! Jail bait comes to my mind often.
I hope all the SITs bite the dust, one by one. They are annoying! If this is going to be Buffy's last season, I want it to be about the characters that we care about. |

Re: Episode Discussion: 7X12 Potential

This whole "Buffy is the real slayer" and "the slayer line is weak because they did that spell to bring buffy back" is rather annoying. Faith is the real slayer, and wouldn't it be Xander giving Buffy mouth to mouth in Prophecy Girl that would have messed up the slayer line and caused Buffy to no longer be the true slayer? They are refering to Buffy as the slayer, and as Dawn said Buffy would have to die in order for a new Slayer to be called.... that's not how it works!! Are the characters that stupid, or do the writers think we're that stupid? Or maybe the writers are being stupid... one way or the other, someone is either stupid or is supposed to be stupid. If I wanted to be treated like a stupid viewer, I'd turn on wrestling.
Other than that severely annoying me to the point of being tempted to yell at the TV, it was a good episode. It does feel a little stuck, but I'm sure the progression is needed for whatever is to come. This season is awesome so far, and the only thing that could make it better for me is the return of some of the older characters... namely Oz, maybe another cameo by Riley, Faith, and some crossover with Angel. About Kennedy: She does have a bit more personality and seems a bit more capable than the other SITs, but I honestly don't find her any less of a suck-up than the rest of them... she just sucks up more to Buffy's style. I like her than most of the others, and if Willow /has/ to have a new love interest, I'd prefer it to be her, but I'm far from a Willow/Kennedy shipper just yet... I love this season so far, with only a few minor complaints. Oh, I did definately miss Principal Wood and Giles in this Episode. |

just a question, but where was it stated that buffy's death wouldn't spawn a new slayer, the same as faith's death?

If Buffy's death had, as ME said that another one wouldn't, then there would already be another slayer out there since she died at the end of season five.
And Hades... as stated in my above comment, I believe the writers are saying even if they don't get the power, they SIT's will have to take on the role of being a slayer if she dies. Bren |
