Yep, this week's a new one. But, I'm not going to get into it, cause I don't wanna spoil the people who don't wanna be. But if ya can't wait, there are a number of places you can see spoilers for the new one. The wildfeed, www.leoffonline.com I think is the addy. Its an early showing of the episode. They basically write up the episode as it happens. They're shown like 3 in the morning eastern time.

S
P O I L E R "Buffy's old boyfriend is back. And just as boring as ever!" Paraphrase from the "Entertainment Weekly" description of this week's episode. Okay, it's bad enough we have to stomach the return of Captain Cardboard. But an episode with no Amber Benson as Tara? Now that's just plain mean. Cruel and unusual punishment. Sort of like standing on top of a mountain, facing heaven and saying "Why, God? Why can't I have my Amber Benson-Tara fix this week?" kind of deal. Here endeth the spoiler |

I am glad to have Riley back. He is a nice sweet guy and treated Buffy like a queen even when she did not deserve it. Yes, he has made some mistakes, but so has the other characters on the show. I hope this will cause Buffy to re-evaluate her unrelationship with Spike. Riley is a lot better man than Spike, and Spike shows his true colors again in this ep. There have been bits and pieces of Spike's true character throughout the whole season. He claims to be fond of Dawn, but as soon as he got buffy in the bed, his fondness of Dawn has been non-existent.
On the contrary, there are people from Canada who have seen this episode, and they say Riley is very good in the ep. Some of these people were not crazy about Riley either. Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.Tara: Willow, I got so lost.Willow: I found you. I willalways find you.Tara: Nobody messes with MY girl!Willow: I'm more of a breast gal myself...but then again, you knew that.

I'm not pleased to hear Riley comes back. Although through season four, he treated Buffy like gold, have you forgotten how she was mistreated in season five?
Buffy has the most complicated life I know. Her mother was suffering from a brain tumour whilst her sister was a mystical blob of energy with hundreds of enemies including a hell-god and everyone wanted her sister dead. Buffy was juggling school at the time and trying so hard to please everyone, her friends, family and boyfriend. Riley was supportive at first, I admit, but he spiralled off into the arms of a vampire when she needed him most? The eventful time when he got spotted with a vamp, he had left Buffy's bed after they had made love to go off with another woman! Is that the right way to treat someone who has a ship-load of responsibility and is at the end of her tether? Riley was *not* the love of Buffy's life, in my opinion. Angel was. Spike is very like her (They share the same strengths and weaknesses) so I see them having a future. Riley was nice and there for Buffy when she wanted him, and not when he didn't. Riley reacted very badly to being used but he went too far. His return will just mess Buffy up and I heard something has changed about him! S P O I L E R He's married! Is this the same man who said he was leaving to go to some isolated jungle and couldn't have any contact with civilians? How come he suddenly changed the rules and met some woman who he decided to marry (All in the space of a year) Riley has messed Buffy up too many times and although I like Marc Blucas, however in my opinion, Riley is no longer wanted or needed in the world of BTVS! |

First, I would like to say I REALLY, REALLY loved to have Riley back. He definitely has not lost any of his attractiveness or edge since the last time he was on. I wish him and Buffy could have stayed together, but I am really glad he is happy and is with someone who appreciates him. I must say I really like his wife because she is nice, strong and supportive.
Second, I would like to say I am exceedingly glad to see Willow smile that smile of hers again. I especially love that she and Tara are on good speaking terms again. It won't be long now folks. Soon, she and Tara will be back together and happy again. Third, like we have seen throughout the season, Spike has not changed one bit. He will always be twisted, manipulative, opportunistic and psychotic. I really hope Buffy really meant what she said about staying away from him from now on. She is finally starting to see clearly, and now she can get her life back together. Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.Tara: Willow, I got so lost.Willow: I found you. I willalways find you.Tara: Nobody messes with MY girl!Willow: I'm more of a breast gal myself...but then again, you knew that.

Just a few quick comments on "As You Were"
I liked it. I know alot of people dislike Riley but im gonna say that i liked him in this episode. -- Total shock that Riley was Married! Whoa. The way buffy found out was tough. And Buffy's reaction to seeing Riley at the DMP ... shock. -- How cute was Willow at the Bronze when she was talking to Dawn about Tara. "... but if i did call she wouldn't hang up on me" <~~~ awwwww and "Hence the happy" -- I went in and out of like and dislike with "Sam" At first i was just upset that she was married to Riley. Then i was pissed when she asked Willow to do a spell(but i understood that she didn't know and yay for Willow saying no and telling them she has a problem with it). I said 'thats it i dont like this "Sam" chick!' But then when she went in and talked to Willow about how strong Willow is for giving up the Dark Magick ... and so i liked Sam again. All in all i liked her. -- Buffy telling Spike that she is using him and then calling him William ... wow. Well, Thats about it for now. ttyl, ~*~Tamara~*~ |

All in all I liked this episode. No Amber so that sucked. they changed him. I didn't find Riley as whiny as usual. I liked Sam to bad she had to go.
Yay for Willow saying no yet again. The line about "I know that if I called her she wouldn't hang up" Hence the happy. wow it is great to see Willow happy again. It gives me hope. That which does not kill you will only make you stronger.

Isie,
Have you seen the ep? Sam's(Riley's wife) place of business was destroyed by demons and many people were killed, so to relieve some of her pain, she then joined Riley's team. They met when Riley was still upset about Buffy. Sam says it took Riley a whole year to get over Buffy. Also, Riley was trying to be supportive of Buffy, but she is the one who pushes him away. How can you compare Riley's bad judgment to the two slayers or the thousands of innocent people Spike has killed? Also, in this ep, Spike shows just how much he has NOT changed. Pay close attention. He even refers to Buffy as a BINT. He is not showing Buffy any respect with this remark. Webster's dictionary bint- (chiefly British;offensive) A girl or woman. It is the equivalent of B****H. Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.Tara: Willow, I got so lost.Willow: I found you. I willalways find you.Tara: Nobody messes with MY girl!Willow: I'm more of a breast gal myself...but then again, you knew that.

Re: Episode discussion: As You Were | ||

I didn't mind Riley so much in this episode. I thought some things were kinda silly (e.g., him walking into Doublemeat with full combat gear, no one making a comment about it, and Buffy leaving her job to go with him ... the "wild bear," casually talking while Riley's wife was fighting, etc). But on the whole, he wasn't as annoying.
While I thought the character of Riley's wife was sweet, the way her lines were delivered made otherwise great scenes painful for me to watch. I think they totally missed an amazing scene opportunity. When Buffy was shooting the Hermit Crabs from Hell, she could have made some comment about her shots 'being close'. Then, after they climbed up the ladder and she threw the grenade (and they were close to each other and having a 'moment'), she could have whispered something like "sometimes close counts, and sometimes it doesn't, does it?" That would have totally been a nice conclusion to the whole Riley arc. I like things that fit with earlier episodes, as opposed to things that suddenly pop up. I loved the Dawn / Willow scene in the Bronze. Willow's reference to once imagining marrying Xander was hysterical. Loved it. However, I don't understand Xander suddenly being enthusiastic about spending his life with Anya. Now the fear is just the wedding, and he's looking forward to spending his life with her. Did I miss something? Similarly, I wish we'd seen more motivation in what Spike did. "Just because he's evil" doesn't cut it for me -- even Big Bad Spike had reasons for doing things. Did he like the idea of mass murdering whole cities? Was he doing something he knew was wrong because he thought it was the only way he could get enough money to help Buffy? Did he even *know* what the risks were? And where did this "doctor" stuff come from? None of it really fits with earlier episodes. They could have at least given this some context. Context is good. And why didn't he make a comment about Buffy wearing combat gear? He surely noticed. Spike notices things. Lots of bad Spike writing in this episode, I think. Finally, I have no choice but to believe the whole military thing is some deep metaphorical joke after watching Riley and Sam being pulled up into the helicopter. I just have to figure out what it is. |

Quick break from studying to add to ep discussion!
* Okay, the ep's still going, but I'm not really paying attention anyway, so it doesn't matter. Not that the ep's bad, but I'm tired and only a Tara scene would get me hyped up at the moment. And since she's not in this ep, I'm just half-watching. * Wow, Dawn sure forgave Willow quickly. Kinda suprised me, but I guess she's sympathetic 'cause Willow's trying so hard to get better and stuff. Not that I'm complaining, though! * When Willow and Dawn talked about how happy Wills was, I got major happies! I wasn't expecting them to show her reactions to Tara now speaking to her, but it definitely made my day! It was so cute how Willow was practically jumping with glee when she was saying she can now call Tara and not get hung up on. Yep, I agree, that's definite progress. * Poor Xander and Anya... They really REALLY shoulda kept the wedding down to just inviting the Scoobs. Whoa... how's Xander's family gonna react to seeing all those demons? o.O * I must say that I LOVE Sam!!!! She reminds me of the woman from... uhh... that show... what's it called? Umm... Oh yeah, 'Crossing Jordan'! She's got this kinda laid-back, cool attitude that I find REALLY appealing. I was so expecting her to be someone easy to hate, but I totally fell in love with her. Bring her back! They must bring her back!!!!!!! * More on Sam, I love the fact that she appologized to Willow and told her how impressed she is that Wills' strong enough to fight the addiction. That just shot my respect for the character up a hundred notches! She made Willow smile. That makes her a great person in my book. Ya know what, though? During that scene, a thought flashed through my mind that if Wills had to fall for anyone other than Tara, Sam or someone like her would be a great choice. I then promptly slapped myself and tried not to think of such things anymore. * *giggles* I just saw the part where Sam and Riley are getting ready to leave and Willow is all being chummy with her and saying she'll e-mail her and stuff. Then after they left, Wills went up to Buffy and said "What a bitch." I was busting up so bad, I almost fell off my chair! * I'm glad that Buffy's finally showing enough strength to fight her own addiction. She was starting to sound really pathetic, always trying to say no but then giving in when Spike insists. Wow... issues are really starting to get all nice and resolved aren't they? Umm.... should I be worried that all hell's gonna break lose soon? * About the preview for next week: Ugh... I love green and all, but those dresses definitely weren't the most flattering things in the world. Looking forward to seeing Tara all dressed up! Um... Tara is gonna be in next week's ep, right? *worried look* Uhhh... I think I'm gonna go check out tvguide.com now... -Mandy |

...denotes lyrics. Tonight, I'm using Save Yourself by Sense Field
(www.sensefield.com) SAVE YOURSELF: As You Were ...turn out the light ...just say goodnight, to yourself As soon as Riley returned and I saw that scar, I realized something. Riley's return wasn't to rub a perfect life in Buffy's face nor to break her heart one more time. It was more than just showing her what she could have had with him. It was to show her what she could have been herself. He's Buffy. He's what Buffy could have been. ...may I remind you ...when you find you, you're all alone is when you've got to be strong Buffy could have had a solid, married life and a steady, demon-killing job. She's always worried about the balance between Slayer and Girl -- now we should say Woman -- and had countless attempts at merging the two, then trying to write off one side of her life completely only to find out again that she needs both halves to be whole. For those not getting why the scar prompted this thought: Remember AlternaBuffy in "The Wish?" She was scarred. ...cause that's when they call you, in the night ...he's got your picture in his mind ...he's got your number on a paper at his disposal anytime I was pleased that Spike was caught with the eggs. Buffy needed to remember who Spike really was, and Riley needed to be shown calm and professional. I do not think that Riley was a bully to Spike. He thought Spike was the Doctor. We don't know for sure that he wasn't. If anything, I think Spike might be. His line about, "Um, I'm holding them for a friend. . ." sounded like someone who is caught with drugs in their jacket pocket and tells his/her parents, "Um, I'm holding them for a friend. . ." or "No, no, this is so and so's jacket. I just borrowed it. . ." I trust Spike as far as I can throw him. I'm 5 feet tall and weigh 90 pounds. That's not going to be very far. ...is it really true ...could you save yourself for someone who, loves you for you ...so many times we just give it away, to someone who ...someone who you ...met in bar ...the back of a car I also can't believe Spike called her that...word. Some shippers are saying, "Oh, but he loves her." If anyone I was in love with called me the equivalent of a female dog, my heart would break and he'd be out the door before he could say, "Oh, I didn't mean it. . ." Also, he called Harmony that. He equates the two. ...and for a moment you felt important but not in your heart ...my self esteem, it's been low, go ahead and count it's been lower than low ...i know the feeling of it stealing life out from under me I have missed Doug's writing so very much. It was a pleasure to see another episode written and directed by the wonderful Petrie. Thank you for infusing life back into Buffy Summers. Welcome back, Doug. In the words of Faith (whom we both adore), "Stick around." Good luck with the Fantastic Four script! ...i want to learn, how you save yourself for someone who, loves you for you ...so many times we just give it away to someone who, couldn't even remember your name Xander and Anya had cute little scenes. Willow mentioned having imagined her wedding to Xander when she was little. Dawn and Buffy were nice to each other. We saw trust and love. We saw patience and understanding. We saw people growing up and letting others do the same. ...could you save yourself for someone who, loves you for you, loves me for me ...give it away to someone who someone who will cherish your name I liked that neither Riley nor Sam were painted in a bad light. Sam was a very real character, trying overly to fit in but not in an over-the-top. She came across self-assured, strong in her relationship with Riley, steady in her job, not snobby nor clingy. When she complimented Buffy, gave Xander advice and talked with Willow, she wasn't talking them up or talking down to them either. She was one of the most adult characters we've seen in a while. You have been missed, Marc. Thanks for appearing on tonight's episode. Always a treat. ...cause I want to learn, can you save yourself for ...someone who will love you for you so many times we ...just give it away, someone who, couldn't even remember your name Not that the end justifies the means, but - well, let me explain. I was frustrated with Buffy throughout the episode in scenes with Spike. On the front lawn? Dawn and Willow right inside? Please. In the bed for once just because her ex is back and taken? Please. But just like she had one last romp with Riley in Into the Woods before he left in a copter, I can understand that they had Buffy go for Spike this one last time to 1) appease shipper fans and 2) have her final breakaway from him be more definite, snap, rather than gradual. ...you save yourself for someone who, loves you for you, ...loves me for me ...give it away to someone who, someone who will ...cherish your name That last scene was lovely. I cheered Buffy on as she admitted that she was using Spike; that she was weak & selfish; and that it was killing her. I've been screaming at her for months to be strong, to rise above this, and to admit what she was doing to herself. She couldn't love again until she loved herself. She couldn't live again until she stopped killing herself. ...cherish your name Tonight, Buffy walked out into the light - and she smiled. Little Willow who wants Buffy's purple shirt only with a higher neckline |

Okay.....first off Riley looked better to me in the beginning...not as muscular, hair darker, and a scar across his face that actually makes him look interesting...a little mystery!
Course then he opened his mouth and Same ole Riley.... The scenes with his wife were, to me, completely unrealistic..standing there chatting with Buffy while she fights the demon by herself!........Saying "Stand down soldier!" while she taunts him about not filling Buffy in on the mission! I am not sure who is the better man in this marriage! What is really amusing to me is Riley was always all "But Buffy! You don't NEED me, I want to take CARE of you!" Then he goes off and marries a commando who seems to be every bit as tough and self-sufficient as Buffy! weird....by the way...did this chickie remind anyone else of Tasha on VIP? The ending was predictable......and the fly away holding on to each other in the dark thing....hmmmm I think she should have buckled up and taken Riley into her arms with his legs wrapped around her waist! Buffy calling Spike William.........i think she was sleeping with the vampire, but cares enough about him to break up with the man. beth ps. I don't think Spike is the doctor...and I do think he was doing it for money............so he could give it to Buffy!!!!! |

There was a supreme lack of Tara, but she did get mentioned.
Willow brightened at the thought of speaking to Tara on the phone without the other wicca hanging up on her. And there's the approaching wedding, where Tara will be one of the bridesmaids. They might have some time to speak after the tossing of the rice and the cutting of the cake. Willow was the best part of this episode. She was living up to the role of supportive best friend of the Slayer. |

Who cares if Spike may have been wanting to give the money to Buffy? Buffy will not take any dirty money from the likes of him anyway. It still does not make it right. Spike may or may not be "The Doctor" but knows exactly what those eggs are and does not care!!!!!!! Sam and Riley said those demons could kill countless numbers of people, and it won't make Spike any less guilty if he had done the killing himself. Also, you can tell Spike is lying by his stammering and overall guilty look.
And by the way, I like Sam and Riley's relationship. Buffy could have had the same thing. Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.Tara: Willow, I got so lost.Willow: I found you. I willalways find you.Tara: Nobody messes with MY girl!Willow: I'm more of a breast gal myself...but then again, you knew that.
