The health care bill, that the House passed yesterday, does very little and costs a lot. It also does not offer insurance to over half of those not covered
now. One side, of our two political parties, wants to pass a health care bill so bad, that they will pass almost anything that shows up in front of them. We
cannot afford what congress wants to spend. The Senate should have more common sense.

Nor can we afford to ignore a problem that even Richard Nixon when he was in office wanted to address. Neither side of the fence is looking at this in a
realistic, logical and straightforward way. But then we are talking about Congress. No matter who's in office, no matter what the majority they just come
down with a case of stupid.

We have a aw stating that health insurance is mandatory for every citizen and that any healthcare insurance has to accept anyone for the basic insurance, which
covers all treatments that are needed for protecting (the quality of) lives.
Everyone on earth should be able to get these basic treatments no matter who they are, where they come from or how rich/poor they are. Don't know the details on healthcare reform *looks ashamed* but I do know something is wrong when people die cause they can't afford to stay alive. |

For some insane reason Insurance Companies in the US are just so obsessed with keeping the status quo with regards to administrative excesses. I'd rather
that my doctor be free to treat me rather than be weighed down with so much paperwork. If you saw what the salaries are of these administration
executives....well

Tort reform would go a long way in getting the insurance compaines to work with congress on a real health care bill. The new lottery, in the United States, is
finding someone to sue. The average cost, even if the insurance company, and their client win in court, is sixth-three thousand dollars. Most of the time,
insurance companies will settle, out of court, for any deal that is fifty thousaand, or lower. Most of the lawyers then get thirty-three to fifty percent of
the settlement. That is why some counties, within the US, do not even have a doctor practicing medicine. Doctors cannot afford to pay the premiums that
insurance compaines are forced to charge.
The other problem, that we have, is the same trouble that we have with marriage laws. Within the US there are fifty sets of laws that govern insurance compaines. One must deal with health insurance with a company that is licensed by your state. Plus states love to tax insurance companies to the max. Just like the current leadership in congress, the state houses do not seem to understand that any taxes leveled against any company is passed on to the consumer. Or the company has to explain to the stock holders why profits went down. Wea lso need a reform of Social Security. The first thing is: MAKE CONGRESS A PART OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND ANY, AND ALL HEALTH CARE REFORM! This country needs real health reform that treats everyone equal. This current bill do not do that. The new bill will only cause needed insurance companies to go out of business, and cost us taxes that we cannot afford. COMMA

insurance companies aiming for profit, omg that can't go well! *sorry for sounding totally socialised there but realy, maximising profit and healthcare do
NOT go together*
Imagine: "Little Timmy is not gonna get his antibiotics, it's cheaper to let him die of pnumonea cause he's sickly anyway, imagine what he's gonna cost if he grows up... and we won't be charged for a funral." or "Emilia's mother is geting too expensive, it's the THIRD time her cancer came back, we have to end her insurance to save our profits" This just sounds awefull :-( health should never be a matter of money as longas there's a SINGLE person alive who has more than he needs to survive. |

It is looking good on the house moving front! Richard and I may soon be renting together, in order to get
somewhere that will allow me to bring Sazki with me! With the two of us, we should be able to get a decent place much closer to uni, possibly even in the same
area as my university, if we look hard enough! Hopefully I'll be out of here soon!

Health Reform:
|
|||

Please DO NOT confuse Government Workers with Members of Congress!!!!!!! Congress has a health plan that is far far far more generous than any Federal
Government Workers plan could ever be!!!!! In addition they have access to so many FREE medical perks that it would blow your mind. These perks are available
to BOTH sides of the political fence, as well as those that sit on the fence. Members of Congress can seek medical treatment at Walter Reed Hospital. They have
an on staff physician. Free of charge mind you. Hmmm I don't think that I've got that kind of set up like that....
GOVERNMENT WORKERS DO PAY FOR THEIR HEALTH CARE!!! THEY DO PAY FOR THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS! THEY DO PAY FOR CO-PAYS, FOR SPECIALISTS, FOR OUT OF SERVICE AREA DOCTORS. AS A MATTER OF FACT THERE ARE THOSE FOLKS THAT BARELY GET A PAY CHECK BECAUSE THEIR PREMIUMS ARE SO HIGH AND/OR THEY'VE GOT MEDICAL ISSUES TO DEAL WITH UNTIL THE NEXT MILLENIUM! Yes I am screaming, because I'm sick of hearing the lame gripe about Federal Government Workers!

I'm with Comma on the everyone should have basic healthcare from birth. Health is damn well nothing to be bargained off!
How many people without insurance do buy brand clothes, unnescesary snacks and gadgets/electronics? that shouldn't be a priority over your health :-s But it's easy to forget that if you're healthy.. when you get sick it's too late. It's cheating and stealing if you get a healthinsurance because you need one, you have to have one IN CASE you need one, that's how they pay expensive lifesaving operations and all, by spreading the costs over milions of people all paying the same just in case they'l need that treatment themselves one day. Cause THAT day they'll wish everyone in the world would put in a penny to save em. |

I know that Federal employees have to pay for their own insurance. I, every three months, make my payment to the one plan that active duty, and retirees,
are under.

Okay, I was not going to get involved in this, but if I don't I won't have anything to talk about with you guys, as you seem keen on this topic.
I know the NHS get's a lot of stick BUT it is a good service and it ensures that everyone gets treatment, unless the treatment required is VERY expensive, and even then you can request financial help if your eligible! I think it is a fair system and a lot of people have gained a great deal from this service. I don't know much about the health system, only that there is a lot of insurance involved!

There are three plans that a person can choose from in my area. One of which is for the northern part of the state, so now there's two but it's
really the same company. There's the high option and a low option and then theres the HMO. All for the same company.

From the Government Accounting Agency (GAO):
House and Senate members make $174,000 a year. That is their actual pay without benefits added. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have asked for another bailout of $20 billion. That is on top of the $80 billion already given to them. 15.7 million Americans are without jobs. 17.5 million Americans are under employed. These are persons who took any job that they could get, no matter their training or work experience. So far, each new job created by bills passed by congress in the last eight months, has cost $670,000 per job. This is only counting the monies that have been spent. Not the billions still not requested by the states. GM and Chrysler did call workers back after 'Cash for Clunkers'. The GAO believes that these persons recalled may have a job for another sixty days or so. GM and Chrysler will then have too many cars for their customer base, and will again start layoffs and long furloughs for their workers. The GAO reports that the health care bill, passed by the House, will cost an additional 4% of Gross Profit each year. Most small businesses clear 1% to2% of their GP each year. That means that the actual profit, for small business, will be -2% to -3%! Walmart is supporting the health care bill. Walmart, and other large compaines, will be the only ones left standing after the small businesses close shop. How far back will Walmart 'Roll Back Prices' after they are the only ones left? We need health care for everyone, but everyone needs to be paying for it. COMMA |

Rach that's so cool! Yes Comma I agree folks need to pay for it, however, in the state it is now if you don't have enough $$ then you've got problems. When insurance companies set the rates so high there's something wrong. We have measured health care right now. If you don't have the $$ for insurance or for a doctor/medical care that's a huge problem. The inusrance companies want to keep making $$ unchecked, I have a problem with this. This is no different than a bank with it's insane charges for every little thing being tossed at customers. |

ACM~~Its also very frustrating to find that one group of employees has a different plan/coverage than another group even though they work for the same company.
What this ends up causing is unexpectedly high co-payments, or "sticker shock" for those that go to the doc. on a sudden wrist or finger injury
rather than their normal preventive services. What my partner has had happen was and still is very frustrating. She finds that her co-pay goes from 10. to 20.
and now 60. per visit per doc./department. All the increases happened in the span of 14 months. She never got anything from her work or at home about the
increases. Now, its 60 dollors per visit per doc/department and in the exray dept. she is charged for every exray taken. Total cost for one visit was 60. + 60.
+ 60. + 60. She had to see her regular doc. before she could see the exray doc and have her exrays taken and later explained.
Now one may say it was cheaper than paying for everything yourself. Thats true. But for somone that counts their change every week to see how much gas they can put in their vehiciale and figure if its enough to get them back and forth to work until the next pay day, thats expensive! It would have cost less to go to the county hospital. I guess what I'm trying to say. .... healthcare should be more equal in cost and coverage no matter where you live, where you work, or who you are. ..............................shadowwolf |
