You want to add Dark Congress by Christopher Golden to your collection for sure.

Those two have the most prominent roles for her. Next in line is th Chaos Bleeds novelization, which also has VampTara! Then the
"Unseen" trilogy. Beyond that she's in the S-5 & s-6 books but about as mucha s in the show. Mortal fear is listed as S-6
but is actually S-7.

I've read mixed reviews about Dark Congress; I think it's interesting (to say the least) but it's not the kind of closure (re: Tara) I'm
looking for. Well, of course, the only closure that I want is a happy W/T ending that is canon. It's selfish, I know, and possibly will not happen even in
season 8 comics. Sorry, but I'm still at the 4th stage of grief (depression) over tara and will possibly circle back to stage 1 (denial) before I ever
reach "acceptance." :P

Not totally sure any of us have reached acceptance. But I think you are right about it possibly never happening in Buffy books or comics. Thank God for fanfic.

Unfortunately, not many of the Buffy books really utilized Tara. Partly this was because so many of them are set during the high school years, prior to her
introduction. But there's also the fact that so many of the BtVS novels were Young Adult books, and there was just no easy way to address her and Willow
being lesbians (sexuality of any kind in general not really being brought up in the YA books much).
As for Dark Congress, it is one of my favorite of the Buffy books. It is so clearly a labor of love for author Christopher Golden, and if I dare say so, I think his vision of Buffy's life post-S7 is a bit more interesting than what we've seen thus far in the S8 comic book (although Chris did take pains to make both realities compatible, if you wish to accept them both as 'canon'). As for Tara's participation in the story, I suspect that, unless Amber herself were to write the story, this is probably the closest we'll ever get to what she would have liked to have seen done with her character. As Chris said: "Amber was the first person I told, even before I suggested it to the editor. I've told her the whole arc of what happens to Tara in the story. She's all for it." |

I agree, Shiai. Danrk Congress is beautifully done, brings back a number of our favorites in an interesting way and is the closest thing to closure Tara fans
will get in the Buffyverse. It's worth reading for 100% certain.

I think I'm going to look for Dark Congress now. Thanks, guys!
But I'm not giving up on the comics, yet. i don't understand why they can bring back everybody else but not Tara. But then again it has to make you scared that if they bring her back, they might screw it up. Geez, this is so hard. |

If you buy or borrow Dark Congress, you must have some Kleenex when you read it.

Agreed. I forgot to add the Kleenex disclosure to my statement. Good catch, GS!

Dark Congress and Monster Island are the best books with Tara. I especially
love the line in Monster Island when Tara refers to her father as a "controlling fruity nut bar."
Tara also appears in... Tempted Champions by Yvonne Navarro The Wisdom of War by Christopher Golden Blood and Fog by Nancy Holder Incidentally, those 3 authors write the best Buffyverse novels; they have the best grasp of the characters and dialogues and the canon. Especially Chris Golden (but of course!). eta: I recommend staying away from the "Wicked Willow Trilogy." I hated what they did with Willow and Tara's characters so much I had to force my way through the first book and stopped reading after that.

telling you that my entire existence could be summed up in one phrase. And that is: If my life wasn't funny it would just be true and that is
unacceptable."

fictionfiend; I see your point and there was a *lot* of plot decisions in thsoe books that I thought Yvonne Navarro was wrongheaded in doing. I think, tho,
what she did to Willow was, if unwelcome, still conssitent with what DarkWillow did ont eh show.
As to Tara, that was troubling, I agree, but in a way it amkes sense that, without abody, a person's reactions and feelings would take ona different character. |

DaddyCat: I agree that the Dark Willow characterization was consistent with the show.
I just couldn't stand to see Tara trapped as a tortured ghost. Combined with everything else, it was too much to take to continue reading the series.

To be fair to Yvonne Navarro, she was really constrained as to what she could and could not do in the trilogy, and she wasn't happy with a lot of what Fox
mandated. The end result, it could perhaps be said, are a trio of books that were a series of awkward compromises (almost entirely made on the author's
part). But that doesn't take away from the fact that Von's a terrific author, and all three books are very well crafted. Had it been condensed into
only a single novel, perhaps it would have done better.
And it's a shame that the 'Wicked Willow' books weren't more successful sales-wise; if they were, chances are Simon & Schuster would have done more "What If...?" Buffy tales. The publisher was really hunting around for something that would revitalize the franchise and give them a solid reason to continue doing the series. Other experiments were the 'Stake Your Destiny' books, the adult-themed Faith novel, "Go Ask Malice", and a late-in-the-game decision to set all of the books back during S2 with the "classic" Scooby line-up. Some very interesting (and often very good) books came out of all of that, but unfortunately they just didn't deliver the necessary sales. |
