There was an independent movie years ago with that title. This is not a discussion about it.
I was skeptical of the possibility of success of Joss Whedon's 'Dollhouse'. First it was developed on Fox, who unceremoniously cancelled Joss'
previous could've been a masterpiece Firefly. I read that there were re-writes and re-shoots for Dollhouse, postponed release dates. I imagined the Fox
Suits taking out their red pens and slashing his pilot script to bits, reworking it to their image, not his.
After watching the premiere episode I think there is some potential for this show. Eliza Dushku's blank face Echo is hard to watch, her monotone delivery
and robotic movements aren't what I was used to (she was Faith!) . But once she becomes 'Active' Eliza brings her acting chops to the fore. In my
opinion she convincingly portrays a woman who is a special kind of hostage negotiator, dedicated, zealous, yet not a superhero. There lies the genius that is
Joss.
Echo is a tabula rasa ready to be made into anyone. I wonder how they'll handle her running into a previous client or target when she has no idea who they
are.
A bonus: Amy Acker as a white coat (is it the same white coat that she wore as Fred?)
The Dollhouse set looks a lot like the offices of Wolfram and Hart.
And the Fox 2009 Friday Night Lineup premiere was hosted by Summer Glau and Eliza. Two Whedon girls. No waiting.

I did fail to see the perfect comedy remarks, that always show up at the worst of times, which are a Joss trademark. Maybe that will come later. I agree with
GS on Dushku's acting ability. It is hard, for most of us, to act like a robot, with no personality. Ms. Dushku does a perfect job of it. The party
dress, that she wears in the opening scenes, should get an award.
For those who have not picked up on it, the names of the "robots" are the military used phonetic alphabet. Echo would have been the fifth person used; Alpha, bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrott, Gulf, Hotel, etc. While the talk has been about the girls used, there are males used also. At least there were males in the showder scene. I am not sure why it is that Joss's programs are not on the, so called, "Big Three" networks. No matter how stupid FOX TV has acted in cutting Joss's projects, plus the controls placed on his creativity, they seem that they will be partners, off and on, from now on. COMMA |

When I watched Eliza as Echo pre-assignment I was thinking "she's a blank slate" which reminded me of that episode of BTVS "Tabula Rasa" where Willow cast a spell and everyone had amnesia. In Dollhouse there's no redhead working wiccan magic, there is a skinny blond guy who, perhaps, has a black A-Team style van and painted a Death Star on it. And always wanted a jet pack. |

I agree this has potential. I too was missing the classic Whedon comedy. Perhaps it will come. In the too brief screen time that Amy Acker was given...I fell
in love with her character. I want to know her story. I also loved the child-like innocence of blank Echo. She exhibited the same level of curiosity, interest
and inquisitiveness as my four and a half year old daughter as delivered in the line "She hurts." When discovering "Sierra" getting a
treatment. Also, very similar is, offer them an explanation that they understand and makes sense to them...and they'll move on to the next thing.
Three cheers to Joss and even more cheers to Eliza!!! Was anyone else confused to death by the naked guy sitting on the sofa eaching cheese-puffs (or whatever the heck he was doing) and watching Echo's college graduation video? Who was he? Why on earth was he nude (aside from the fact that Joss likes to make guys nude on his shows...for example Oz, Spike, Angel and Capt. Reynolds.)? |

Regarding the naked guy it is my GUESS only that he is a former Active who was messed up in the brain and kills people and wants Agent Ballard to find
Dollhouse. Plus he's fixated on Caroline.

In an interview with AOL-Time warner Television, Ms. Dushku, who is not only the lead character but is the producer of DOLLHOUSE, had a few things to
say. The main tidbits, from that interview, was that Joss had a five-year plan for the show and there would be guest stars, no names given, from Joss's
other shows. Ms. Dushku did talk a little about her having to change characters several times in each show and how certain characters were very hard to do.
While Friday night is not the best night for any show, she is happy with the time slot and day and the shows that they are up against in the from the other
channels. Ms. Acker's character does develope and becomes a main player.
On the first show, Dushku said that no one was 100% happy with it but hey had to lay down a foundation. She hinted at funny characters to come and some of Joss's ideas for her. COMMA |

The ratings for"DOLLHOUSE" was down to 4.2 million viewers for week two, that is 15% fewer that week one, and 3.7 million viewers in week
three. We know how fast FOX jumps to cut dead weight.

This morning while enjoying my first cup of coffee of the day, I happened upon a collection of pictures of dear Eliza dressed up in a dominatrix outfit.
Needless to say I won't even entertain the thought of posting them here. However I did manage to get the coffee spritz all cleaned up.

The future of 'DOLLHOUSE' as we know it now. FOX Network has announced that a decision on 'DOLLHOUSE', pass the already agreeded upon
episodes, will be made at the regular end of month meeting. The FOX Channel purchased the pilot, which they had Joss reshoot, and thirteen other episodes, for
a total of fourteen. Joss and FOX have stated that the first season with end with episode thirteen. Both agree that thirteen is the place to stop.

Ok..Let me go ahead and say it. I am thinking that episode 13 wraps up Season 1. Episode 14 would be a clift hanger that would leave us hanging until
October. Since Joss and FOX are both saying that season one will end with episode thirteen, I think that this is another "one season and you are
out" for Joss.
FOX has already announced that this is the end of the line for "Prison Break" and for "The Sarah Conner Chronicles." Since TSCC and DH share back to back time slots, one has to worry about DH. Friday night is a very bad night to have a series on. Most do not make it. I did not know how much I missed seeing "Mutant Enemy" growl while traversing the screen. I always skip pass him when I watch Angel or BtVS. I do not have that choice with regular TV. COMMA |

Alpha to Echo: I am the best/ The only way to beat me is a spear to the chest! And any Aerosmith song from their Toys In the Attic tape-CD? Something different..... If this was the old days (perhaps 5 or 6 years ago) someone would've started a write in campaign to save Dollhouse. The symbol of Dollhouse might have been little bottles of white-out. All mailed to FOX. More Musical ideas hopefully to follow........
